If one could prove this to be the exact coin, beyond a reasonable doubt, the price would jump to the millions ! The Islamic Gold Coin That Left Quite An Impression On The Anglo Saxon King Offa Rex 157 AH 773 AD 🌙 The original gold dinar coin minted in the City Of Peace, todays Baghdad, by the Abbasid Caliphate Abū Jaʿfar ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad al-Manṣūr in 157 Anno Hegirae or 'Year of the Hijrah', Anno Domini or the Year of Our Lord 773 that made such an impression on Offa Rex Anglo Saxon King of Mercia from 757 to 796. This Islamic gold coin of this particular year 157 AH 773 AD is in my professional opinion the nicest of all similar Islamic gold coins minted before and after which would explain why Offa Rex wanted this exact one with his name attached to it ! One must consider that the Anglo Saxon had only began to convert to Christianity in 601 AD and mostly as a means to uniting the people they intended to rule. So the arrival of Islam with very similar ideas soon afterwards was simply seen as an evolutionary sequence, and the fact the Abbasids financed Charlemagne, a Christian, to fight the remnants of the Umayyad muslims in Spain that were able to hold on to their last bastion of rule resisting Abbasid expansion into Europe with very similar gold coins, many ending up in Viking hands and jewellery. So Offa Rex had a copy gold coin of this original one listed here with the same exact minted year, 157 AH, issue with his name added strongly insinuates that he was of the belief that Islam was simply a continuance of Christianity with Muhammad being the last profit besides himself, quite an ego ! So One could say that he was partial muslim in the non traditional sense and wanted a coin that equates himself as representing God on Earth !
