Bayezid evacuated Sephardi Jews from Spain following the fall of the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada and the proclamation of the Alhambra Decree. He then resettled them throughout Ottoman lands, especially in Salonica. With the support of the Janissaries, Selim succeeded in forcing his father to abdicate in 1512 CE. Bayezid II died shortly there after and was buried in the Bayezid Mosque in Istanbul.
